Give Carpenders Park Residents a Say

Your County Councillor has blocked you from having a say on safer streets for Carpenders Park.

Your newly‑elected County Councillor has vetoed residents being consulted on whether parts of Carpenders Park should become a 20mph area.

As part of the county‑wide rollout of 20mph zones by the Liberal Democrat–run County Council, Carpenders Park was identified as a suitable area to consult residents. When County Council officers approached your new councillor, he told them “no”, claiming no one was interested.

Given the well‑known evidence that 20mph limits on residential roads make areas safer for walking and cycling — and that any accidents that do occur tend to result in less serious injury — it is shocking that an elected councillor would deny residents even the right to express a view.

The consultation proposed and funded by the County Council would simply have asked for your views. It would not have imposed a scheme. It would have allowed residents to say whether they wanted 20mph for all or part of Carpenders Park.

Carpenders Park is clearly a suitable area to consider, being residential, and with Oxhey Lane and Little Oxhey Lane unaffected. Yet your county councillor told officers: “No — don’t ask my residents.”

We think that is wrong.

So why not sign our petition calling on the County Council to ignore his veto and consult you directly, so your views — for or against — can be heard. That’s called democracy.

Give Carpenders Park Residents a Say

We, the undersigned, call on Hertfordshire County Council to consult residents on whether all or parts of Carpenders Park should become a 20mph area, regardless of the local County Councillor's objection, so that local people can have their say.
